Tune your piano on a regular basis, such as twice a year. This keeps the piano sounding good for your practice time and performance. Also any regulation (Adjustments) needed can be done at time of tuning. Sometimes, sticky notes may occur and they could be fixed with lubrication when piano being tuned. Technicians can tell if your keys are sluggish when they are tuning piano, thus lubricating parts at that time will save you a service call later. This is not to say that it will not happen, because severe humidity, may cause this. Having a well tuned and good action response on your piano, will make you want to play it more.

September 23rd, 2010Finger Placement On Keys
August 20th, 2010It is important to use the right finger,on the right key. This is because, as you get better, the music gets harder. This is one reason we do scales. They make us use the right fingers when practicing. Failure to do this will give student problems ,when trying to do fast passages with fluency. I call this a neccesary evil when practicing. Remember, my favorite saying. Practice hard, not hardly practice.
scale books
August 11th, 2010The best books for beginners,is Fingerpower books. It starts of slow and graduates to more technical practices. For the Intermediate to advanced player, I recommend Hannon Scale and Chords. This will give student all he or she can handle with their fingers.
Recitals
May 28th, 2010Having recitals for children, are a good thing. It teaches them confidence, in playing for themselves and others. Also many teachers require the student memeroize their songs for perfection. Students, can put more feeling in their music thru memorization. Also students can cover up any mistakes if they keep playing thru memory. They just keep playing, and the public generally,do not pick up mistakes.
practicing on keyboards
April 24th, 2010I do not recomend using a keyboard, to learn to play piano. Touch is never the same (even though the salesman says it is). You cannot feel each key under your fingers, properly. Please do your child a favor and get a good used piano, if you cannot afford a new one.I tell my customers a keyboard is an addition after you learn basics. People get impressed with the rhythms, drums etc. Furthermore, a keyboard has almost no value after its purchased. This is because technology is always improving. Think before you buy.
Key signature tips
April 12th, 2010Play the C scale. Good Job, now move up five notes from C. Hey, now you can play G scale with one sharp(F#),Now move up five notes to D, Hey now you can play (D) Scale with two sharps F#-C#) Now you can continue with same formula with A,E,and B scales. Pretty neat.

Learn classical or pop piano music?
March 3rd, 2010Should I learn classical piano or pop piano music when I begin to learn piano? Well, that’s the big question. Here is my answer. Young people should start with method books (Bastien, Thompsons) etc. There are many choices of which you can choose. Teachers, usually have their favorites, so you can trust their judgment. Learning some piano chords with the method books will take care of pop music.

Piano teaching relatives
February 21st, 2010It is my opinion that trying to teach piano to someone in the family is not easy to do. They tend to take advantage of the relationship, and not practice as well as they would do for a stranger. Therefore, seek out a piano teacher who would not be in your family. Remember also you get what you pay for.
Piano Practice Time
February 6th, 2010Get a time when you can practice piano everyday if possible, 1/2 hour at least is best.
By picking a time every day, it becomes a good habit. To many people try to fit in time with all other activities. Start by practicing scales, to limber up fingers.Remember, there is no short cut to playing the piano.
