Yes it is hard to practice the piano in the summer. You must find the time, preferably in the morning. After practice you can go about your business. We want to be outside late,in the summer months. The advantage to this practice time is, if you have extra time in the evening (Bad Weather),  it is to your advantage. So try to think ahead of your plan.

Music Tote bags are great for having a place to put all your music books, pencils etc. You can put your name on them, or just buy them with musical notes, and signs on them. They give your child a sense of importance, and acceptance of well being.. Also they get in a habit of putting the music, where it belongs,when going to lessons. They are not expensive,and can be bought at most Music stores.

The easiest way to learn to play a musical instrument is to get a private teacher. Group lessons are Okay for basics, but do not teach in depth as a teacher would do. Television tapes are a good sales gimmick, but do not do the job as thorough as a teacher. Invest  in a teacher and not a DVD or tape. Remember that music is fun to play, but you need the proper guidance.

A metronome is any device that produces regular, metrical ticks (beats, clicks).The main objective of a piano metronome is to make you count evenly. All to often, students play the way they want. Piano metronomes give you the option of playing at different tempos. I consider them a necessary evil, because its not easy to play evenly, all the time. You must first know the song very well,as to not make many mistakes,during your playing. There are many kinds of piano metronomes to buy such as Electric and wind ups at different sizes. Big small and even with animals with pictures on them. Any good teacher will advise you to buy metronomes.

When playing a melody,you can add the top octave not and it will sound richer. After you can do that, then add notes in the middle of the octave that corresponds to the chord,for that measure or measures. If there are no chords, you can pick up some of the bass notes to do the same thing. Example would be. C note,add C note on top or eight notes higher. Then add E and G. This gives you C-E-G-C. Play all at same time, if you can. Now that sounds nice.

The music reads the same,however the technic is different. On the Organ,the pedals are your bass. The left hand can be played with chords that are not necessarly the same as a piano chord. These are called chord inversions. One must study the chord system a lot to remember the different positions. Chord charts are available at music stores. They would probly have to order them for you.

Sheet music sometimes can be very confusing with lots of sharps or flats. Try to get simple versions of the songs you like,and enhance the song by adding goodies. (Like) Use a C6 chord cega,and run it up the keyboard three octoves. Then reverse it and go backwards. These are called fill in,where there are whole notes or you just want to add extra notes. Of course I am assuming you know the key of (C) is what I am basing this on. You can play cegb as an arpeggio (each note seperate up three octoves) both hands at the same time. If you play fast enough, it will sound like a waterfall. Left hand first and then right hand immediatly after. Also if you just play cegb-dfac egbd dfac,you can use this for an intro to a song.

We mostly know about Beethoven, Chopin and Bach. However it would be wise to get a book on piano Composers. It will open your eyes, as to how many there are. Also you can learn there trials and tribulations on composing their songs. Also consider the different type of piano composers. Jazz, popular, rag time, show tunes, rock, boogie and many more. From young to old, its always interesting to learn about these composers. Also, knowing what the composer had in mind, for their song, helps you express the song better.

Playing the piano for someone,can sometimes be nerve racking. Your not sure if your are going to make mistakes,that people will know about. The first thing ,you can do is get some confidence by playing as much as you can for friends and relitives. While playing if you make a mistake, keep going like you never knew. You will be surprised that even the listener did not know you goofed. The more you do this the better you can play thru your mistakes. Never stop completely, when you goof. Playing thru will sound much better. Besides when you stop playing,everyone knows you made a mistake. So keep on playing. The song must go on.

Tune your piano on a regular basis, such as twice a year. This keeps the piano sounding good for your practice time and performance. Also any regulation (Adjustments) needed can be done at time of tuning. Sometimes, sticky notes may occur and they could be fixed with lubrication when piano being tuned. Technicians can tell if your keys are sluggish when they are tuning piano,thus lubricating parts at that time will save you a service call later. This is not to say that it will not happen,because severe humidity, may cause this. Having a well tuned and good action response on your piano, will make you want to play it more.
