The High Gloss pianos are very nice, but they tend to show every dust particle in the air, especially if their shiny black. Consider Mahogony or Walnut Hi Gloss as they are much better. Also, what happened to the nice wood finnishes. Something to consider in your purchase. Also Hi Gloss chips and cracks are much harder to fix. Also finding someone who can work on them is not nearly as easy.

How to buy a grand piano - the length of string
April 3rd, 2010For your information on what we call different pianos. The spinet is 36 inches high. The console is usually 41 inches high. The Studio piano is usually 44-46 inches high. The Upright, which we call most pianos is really 50 inches high or more. We tend to thing of them as the real old pianos made in the 1920s, however there are new ones made that high today. Grand pianos have their own categories. Petite, parlor baby concert. Starting at 4ft 8in to 9feet. The longer the piano string the better the sound. Some people, buy a very small Grand piano, not realizing its a console (41 inches) in a Grand cabinet. Its my opinion that one should buy at least a 5 ft Grand piano to get a good sound. All piano companies have different sizes to choose from. 5ft-5ft1,5ft 2 etc.
Piano tuning pins
February 17th, 2010The piano tuning pins in your piano are used for
adjusting the pitch of your piano. By moving them with a tuning hammer, the tuner can raise or lower pitch. When humidity is high (Summer time) your piano can actually go sharp in pitch. Humidity plays an important part of a stable piano. Tuning pins come in various sizes. If you have a loose pin, the tuner can put a oversize pin to tighten up string.

Grand Piano String Cover
February 6th, 2010This is no more then a piece of felt, that fits inside your piano. It goes over the Top of the strings,so dust will not get on soundboard, strings and action. Get a piece of felt according to the size of your piano. Close top completely, and make the measurements of the top. This should give you the size you need. Put on top and cut around perimeter of piano. Then open, put inside and cut around accordingly. This will not effect sound that is noticeable.

piano tuning
November 15th, 2009Pianos should be tuned twice a year, because of weather conditions.
being made out of wood, your piano is constantly changing.
Humidity in the summer tends to raise the pitch of your piano.
Turning on furnace in winter makes for less humidity
putting your piano flat. Because of construction all pianos
are different. Some go out of tune faster then others.
